The book begins with a synopsis of the history of this old and huge steel plant. The follows two 2-page aerial photographs to give the reader a perspective of the size of the whole facility.
This first volume focuses on the various class 1 railroads (Reading Company and Lehigh Valley) bringing ore, limestone, and coal to Bethlehem and delivery to the plant by the Philadelphia, Bethlehem & New England Railroad.
