Acquisition of the Pere Marquette in 1947 produced a second Chesapeake & Ohio, one that linked the Midwest's two largest cities, Detroit and Chicago, and that spun a spiders web of lines throughout the state of Michigan and the southern region of Ontario.
This C&O has never been adequately represented in books on the railroad, and this Volume Two of Morning Suns three-Volume look at George Washington's Road is an effort to provide a comprehensive look at the lines of the former Pere Marquette Railway in the years before and after the C&O merger.
This book is a tour of the route from Chicago to Detroit and into Ontario. Also included are photographs of the Lake Michigan ferries operated by the C&O.
