In the 1980s and 1990s, the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad struggled to maintain railroad operations on unwanted lines of the Chicago & North Western and Milwaukee Road across the Midwest plains. Operated with a hodgepodge of equipment rosters, their efforts are chronicled together with vintage shots of the predecessor roads.
