This Volume, the sixth in the series covering the Erie Lackawanna, covers the mid-60s or the best financial period of the roads troubled 15 plus year history. From 1965 to 1969 except for 1967, the EL enjoyed a positive net income. Freight traffic was generally brisk, new motive power gradually superseded the first-generation diesels and the road made substantial progress in reducing its heavy Passenger Service deficit.
