This book begins with photographs taken in the late 1950s and continue on into the 1980s. Most photographs are from the 1960s. Long Island's varied diesel roster in many paint schemes plus the MU cars will be familiar to Long Island residents. The last section of the book is a color guide with pictures of passenger cars, snow plows and a couple of tugboat scenes.
Life-long railfan-photographer Matt Herson's latest book-on the Long Island Rail Road takes a colorful and in-depth look at three decades of operation by "The Route of the Dashing Commuter." With captions written by long-time LIRR railfan-historian Mike Boland, this fascinating collection of photographs captures the nation's busiest passenger railroad in all its glory, from its varied roster of passenger cars, MU's, motive power, cabooses, freight equipment and much more...even tugboats, RPO cars and its M-O-W fleet of cars.
