Four Ways West Publications, hardcover, 144 pages, Black-and-White and Color photographs.
This title is about 50-50 between Black-and-White and Color photographs. Because of the time period of the photos, it is expected that this will be the ratio. There are many photographs of steam power in color, though. Also many photographs are of just the power and equipment and not the locations of the route. There are still many photographs of the route, but do not expect an all locations and scenery book. The captions are much more extensive being a full paragraph of information.
This title features Southern Pacific's operations from Los Angeles to Bakersfield during the period between mid-1930 to the 1950s. You'll enjoy the large collection of SP photos of many vintage photographers, each photo featuring detailed information on the history of each locomotive.
This is Dave Houston's second SP book and it gives a glimpse of what was running during that time period. Huge Cab-forwards, as well as "normal size" steam locomotives, and early diesel locomotives are featured throughout this very interesting new title. Don't miss all of the action!
