Southern Pacific passenger historians Munger and Cauthen have completed a definitive photographic pictorial history of SP passenger trains and their cars. There is no text in this book other than the photo captions and it has high quality Color and B&W photos, many one or two large photos on a page. It covers the vast SP system including the Pacific Lines, Texas & New Orleans, SP de Mexico and the Northwestern Pacific. Many never-before-seen views are included with detailed captions describing the trains and cars.

This photo gallery is over 460 pages in Color and B&W photos, including a 51-page bonus photo appendix covering SP's interesting pre-war lightweight single-unit chair cars. This volume is hard bound, 8.5 X 11 in. landscape format, with index and bibliography.

A: You would have to ask the publisher. Would you risk printing 200-300 more copies and selling half of them? It's a risk usually not taken especially as the hobby shrinks.

Q: Hi Randy, I am interested in this book, and I understand the consignor has set a firm price. However, as a long time customer I wanted to ask if you could offer "off the record" your personal opinion as to whether or not this book is really worth that much money. Given how many other books have already been published on SP passenger trains and equipment, I am concerned it may be in some ways too repetitive to justify its cost. Thanks, Chuck

A: I am too biased to provide an objective answer. My favorite train is the Golden State. The book starts off with a bunch of Golden State equipment. I was so happy to see these pictures published. I don't know if I've seen any of the pictures in this book before. The color reproduction is outstanding, and the pictures are big. As I mentioned in other questions above, I offered to pay for a second printing and was turned down.
