Hardcover, 176 pages, more than 200 color photographs and maps. Freight train numbers and schedules.
Enjoy a guided tour of Illinois Central's network of lines south of the Ohio River, from the 1960s to acquisition by Canadian National in 1999. From southern Illinois, through Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, enjoy more than 200 color photos of freight and passenger trains, stations, towers, buildings, and people, plus detailed maps and schedules.
A few steam locomotives appear in this title - in color! Also quite a few passenger trains looking quite clean right up until the advent of Amtrak. Some photos include former GM&O power still in the original paint. Most images of IC power will be in the orange and white paint scheme, then the orange and gray paint will come in second place and the original and later all black paint will be about 10 percent of the photographs. There are many photographs of structures and locations. Color maps will show the track layout at junctions and yards. This is a very good publication for Illinois Central fans and those interested in railroading in the southern USA.
