Marion was known as the Crossroads of Ohio Railroading. It was the intersection of four railroads: the Pennsylvania Railroad main line to Sandusky, Ohio (later Norfolk & Westerm), Chesapeak & Ohio (teh former Hocking Valley), New York Central (the fomer Big Four), and the Erie Railroad (later the Erie Lackawann) main line between Chicago and Hoboken, New Jersey.
